Security

Bank-Level Security for Your Financial Data

Unified is built with security at every layer. Your financial data is protected by the same encryption standards used by major Canadian banks, with read-only access that ensures your money is never at risk.

Security Architecture

Multiple layers of protection keep your financial information safe at every step.

AES-256 Encryption

All your financial data is encrypted at rest and in transit using AES-256, the gold standard of encryption trusted by governments and financial institutions worldwide. Every byte of data is unreadable without the proper decryption keys.

Plaid-Powered Connections

Bank connections are handled by Plaid, a SOC 2 Type II certified provider trusted by thousands of financial apps. Your credentials go directly to your bank through Plaid's secure infrastructure — Unified never sees them.

Read-Only Access

Unified can never move your money, make transactions, or modify your accounts. We only have read-only access to view balances and transaction history. This is enforced at the connection level, so there is no way for us to initiate any financial action.

Multi-Factor Authentication

Your Unified account is protected by Clerk-powered authentication with full multi-factor authentication support. Add an extra layer of security with authenticator apps, SMS verification, or passkeys to ensure only you can access your financial dashboard.

How Your Data Is Protected

Here's exactly what happens when you connect a bank account to Unified, step by step.

1

Your credentials go to your bank, not Unified

When you connect an account, you enter your bank login credentials directly with your bank through Plaid's secure interface. Unified never sees, handles, or stores your banking username or password.

2

Plaid handles the secure connection

Plaid establishes and maintains a secure, encrypted connection with your bank. As a SOC 2 Type II certified provider, Plaid undergoes regular independent security audits to verify their infrastructure meets the highest standards.

3

Data is encrypted and stored safely

Your account balances and transaction data are encrypted with AES-256 encryption before being stored. Data is also encrypted in transit using TLS, meaning it's protected both when moving and when at rest on our servers.

4

You can delete everything, anytime

You maintain full control over your data at all times. Delete your account and all associated financial data whenever you choose. We also revoke all Plaid connections to your bank accounts upon deletion.
