Short answer: Revolut is not available in Canada. Its official list of sign-up countries, checked on August 23, 2026, does not include Canada, and there is no Canadian waiting list. There is also no single Canadian app that replaces Revolut outright, so the useful question is what to use for each job: a no-FX-fee card for travel, a cheap way to send money abroad, a fee-free chequing account, and one place to see all of it.

Revolut's Status in Canada, Verified
Revolut's help centre article "Where you can sign up for Revolut" is the authoritative list. On August 23, 2026 it listed Australia, Brazil, the European Economic Area, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Mexico ("waiting list only until launch in 2026"), plus a handful of overseas territories. Canada is not on it, and unlike Mexico, it has no waiting list. Typing revolut.com/en-CA into a browser redirects to the UK site.
| When | What happened |
|---|---|
| 2019 | Revolut opened a limited Canadian beta built around prepaid cards and foreign exchange. |
| Early 2021 | Revolut withdrew from Canada, saying it "was not able to offer the full range of services it had hoped to in Canada." |
| October 2025 | Jan Pilbauer, formerly of Payments Canada and the Bank of Canada, appointed CEO of Revolut Canada. A spokesperson called Canada a market Revolut is "currently evaluating and see[s] as attractive," but "quite early in the process." |
| August 2026 | No announced launch date and no public evidence of a Canadian bank licence application (NCFA, August 10, 2026). Canada absent from Revolut's sign-up list (August 23, 2026). |
Sources: BetaKit, December 3, 2025 and NCFA Canada, August 10, 2026. Revolut may well launch here eventually; it has the scale and now has a Canadian CEO. But "evaluating" is not a product, and this page will be rewritten the day the sign-up list changes.
What People Use Revolut For
Revolut is a bank-style account with a card and an app. The things Canadians say they miss, or wish they could get, fall into four buckets:
- Spending abroad in other currencies at a good exchange rate with no foreign transaction fee.
- Sending money internationally cheaply and quickly.
- A no-fee everyday account with a card, instant notifications, and vaults or pockets for savings.
- Spending analytics and budgets in the same app as the money.
In Canada those four jobs are done by different products, and pretending one app covers all of them would be the kind of advice that gets a page like this rightly ignored. So, one job at a time.
Multi-Currency Spending Abroad
Most Canadian credit and debit cards add about 2.5% to every foreign purchase (Tangerine, for example, states 2.50% on its chequing debit card). These four do not charge that fee from the issuer's side:
Wise Card
The closest thing to Revolut's travel experience available to Canadians. Wise's Canadian card fees page lists no subscription fee, a free card, spending in 40+ currencies at the mid-market rate with a small conversion fee shown upfront, and ATM withdrawals free up to $100 CAD per month, then $2.69 CAD plus 2.69% of the amount over $100. Wise Payments Canada Inc. is registered with FINTRAC.
EQ Bank Card
A prepaid, reloadable Mastercard tied to an EQ Bank Personal Account. EQ's card page states no foreign exchange fee, no monthly or annual fee, 0.5% cash back on purchases, interest on the loaded balance, and reimbursement of Canadian ATM operator fees up to $5 per withdrawal, five times a month. Abroad, you pay Mastercard's exchange rate without the 2.5% markup.
Wealthsimple Cash
A no-monthly-fee chequing account with a card. Wealthsimple's page states $0 FX fees from Wealthsimple, with the caveat that "there is still a currency conversion rate charged by the payment network." Interest of 1.25% to 2.25% depending on client tier, and Interac e-Transfers up to $50,000 at no charge.
KOHO Extra and Everything
KOHO's free Essential plan charges FX fees, but its Extra plan ($12/month) and Everything plan ($14.75/month) both state "no FX fees," with 2.5% and 3.5% interest on balances respectively. Whether the monthly fee pays for itself depends on how much you spend abroad: at a 2.5% saving, Extra breaks even at roughly $480 of foreign spending a month.
International Transfers
For sending money abroad, Wise is the most common Revolut substitute among Canadians: transfers at the mid-market rate with the fee shown before you confirm, from 0.1% on large amounts and higher on small ones. The big banks offer international transfers too, usually with a flat fee plus an exchange-rate margin, and some digital banks bundle them: Simplii's chequing page, for instance, advertises free international money transfers through its Global Money Transfer service (check the exchange rate, which is where the cost usually sits). We have not compared every remittance service, so treat this as a starting point rather than a ranking.
Fee-Free Everyday Chequing
Revolut's base account is free. Canada has several no-fee chequing accounts that cover the everyday piece:
- Tangerine Chequing: no monthly fee, no minimum balance, free Interac e-Transfers, 3,500+ Scotiabank ABMs. 2.5% FX on foreign debit purchases, so pair it with one of the cards above for travel.
- Simplii No Fee Chequing: no monthly fee, free Interac e-Transfers, 3,400+ CIBC ATMs.
- Wealthsimple Cash: no monthly fee, interest on the balance, and the no-FX-fee card covered above.
- KOHO Essential: $0/month with a prepaid card, upgradeable to Extra or Everything when you travel.
None of these are Revolut, and a few Revolut features (vaults with rounding-up, multi-currency balances held in the account, disposable virtual cards on every plan) do not map neatly onto any one of them. That is the honest gap.
Spending Insights and All Accounts in One Place
Here is the catch with everything above: the moment you assemble a Revolut substitute from three or four products, you lose the one thing Revolut did well for a lot of people, which was showing spending, budgets, and balances in a single app. This is the only part of the Revolut experience Unified (our app) replaces, and it is worth being precise about it.
Unified connects the Canadian accounts you already have, such as Tangerine, Simplii, EQ Bank, Wealthsimple, and the Big Five (check yours on the supported banks page), with read-only access, and gives you budgets by month or by paycheque, a Safe to Spend number, subscription tracking with price-hike alerts, and automatic net worth. It costs $6.99 CAD per month or $69 CAD per year after a 14-day free trial. It is not a bank, holds no money, issues no card, and cannot send a transfer. If Revolut's subscription and bill features were the draw, our Rocket Money in Canada page covers that ground.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a Revolut alternative in Canada?
Not a single app that does everything Revolut does, but every Revolut use case has a Canadian answer. For multi-currency spending abroad: the Wise card, the EQ Bank Card, Wealthsimple Cash, or KOHO's Extra and Everything plans, all with no foreign transaction fee from the issuer. For international transfers: Wise, or your bank's own service. For fee-free everyday chequing: Tangerine, Simplii, Wealthsimple Cash, or KOHO Essential. For seeing every account in one place with budgets and spending insights: Unified. Details and sources for each are on this page.
Is Revolut available in Canada?
No. Revolut's official list of countries where you can sign up, checked August 23, 2026, includes the UK, US, EEA, Switzerland, Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Brazil, and Mexico (waiting list), and does not include Canada. Revolut ran a limited Canadian beta from 2019 and withdrew in early 2021.
When is Revolut coming to Canada?
Revolut has not announced a date. It appointed Jan Pilbauer, formerly of Payments Canada and the Bank of Canada, as CEO of Revolut Canada in October 2025, and told BetaKit the Canadian market is one it is evaluating and sees as attractive, but that it was early in the process. As of August 10, 2026, there was no announced launch date and no public evidence of a Canadian bank licence application. Unlike Mexico, Canada has no Revolut waiting list.
What is the best Revolut alternative in Canada for travel?
For spending abroad without a foreign transaction fee, the Wise card (40+ currencies at the mid-market rate, free to order, first $100 CAD of ATM withdrawals per month free) and the EQ Bank Card (no FX fee, 0.5% cash back, Canadian ATM fees reimbursed up to $5 five times a month) are the closest to Revolut's travel experience. Wealthsimple Cash charges no FX fee of its own but the card network's conversion rate still applies, and KOHO Extra ($12/month) or Everything ($14.75/month) also drop FX fees.
Can I use my existing Revolut card in Canada?
If you already have a Revolut account from a supported country, Revolut says its cards work in any country where Visa or Mastercard are accepted, with a list of excluded countries that does not include Canada. What you cannot do is open a new Revolut account as a Canadian resident.
Is Unified a Revolut replacement?
No, and we would rather say that plainly. Unified is a budgeting and account-aggregation app: it connects the Canadian bank accounts and cards you already have, read-only, and shows budgets, subscriptions, spending, and net worth in one place. It is not a bank, holds no currency, issues no card, and cannot send money. It replaces the overview part of Revolut, not the banking part.
